The Focus+ sensor in the Basilisk V2 is Razer’s highest-tier optical sensor at the time of the mouse’s launch, rated at 20,000 DPI maximum with 650 IPS maximum tracking speed and 50G maximum acceleration. Both the speed and acceleration figures exceed the physical capability of any human player — the sensor will maintain accurate tracking through any physical mouse movement a player can produce. DPI is configurable from 100 to 20,000 in increments of 50, with five presets that can be cycled through via the DPI stage button on top of the mouse without entering software. The Focus+ sensor also includes Razer’s asymmetric lift-off and landing distance feature: through Synapse, the distance at which the sensor stops and resumes tracking when the mouse is lifted off the pad can be set independently for lift-off (the height at which tracking stops when lifting) and landing (the height at which tracking resumes when replacing the mouse). This allows players who frequently lift and reposition the mouse to set a very low lift-off distance, eliminating spurious cursor movement when repositioning the mouse mid-game.

Adjustable Scroll Resistance

Dial-Controlled Tension — Light to Firm

The customizable scroll wheel resistance is the Basilisk V2’s defining differentiator — a feature not found on the Basilisk V3 or on most competing gaming mice. On the underside of the mouse, a small dial controls the tension applied to the scroll wheel mechanism. Turning it one way reduces resistance until the wheel moves with almost no tactile feedback, producing a very smooth, near-free-spinning feel suitable for rapid document scrolling and web navigation. Turning it the other way increases resistance through a series of increasingly firm and deliberate notched increments. For gaming, heavier resistance is particularly useful in titles like CS2, Valorant or Apex Legends where weapon slots are assigned to scroll wheel inputs — a firm scroll produces precise, intentional one-notch movements, preventing accidental slot changes during critical moments. For general productivity use, lighter resistance allows fast scrolling without effort. The resistance setting is a physical mechanical adjustment rather than a software setting, so it remains in effect regardless of whether Razer Synapse is installed or running.

The Basilisk V2 provides 11 programmable buttons: left click, right click, scroll wheel click, DPI stage button, Hypershift button, two side buttons, scroll tilt left, scroll tilt right, a profile cycle button (underneath) and the DPI clutch. Hypershift is Razer Synapse’s second-layer function system — holding the designated Hypershift button activates alternate functions for all other buttons simultaneously, effectively providing 22 unique in-game actions from 11 physical buttons. Razer Optical Mouse Switches Gen-2 use a light beam and phototransistor for button detection: the button breaks the beam when pressed, triggering registration. This is faster than the physical contact closure of mechanical switches and eliminates the wear mechanism — no physical contacts degrading over time — giving the switch a rated life of 70 million clicks without double-clicking issues. The Speedflex cable uses a woven fibre construction that is thinner and more supple than standard braided cables, producing less drag when the mouse moves across the pad — important for low-sensitivity players who make large arm movements.
