The Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter lets you keep using your favourite wired headphones and earphones with an iPhone or iPad that has a Lightning port. Plug the Lightning end into your device and your headphones’ standard 3.5mm plug into the other, and you are listening — no app, no pairing and no battery to charge. It is Apple’s own adapter, model MMX62ZM/A, supplied new in a sealed Apple box. It works with Lightning devices running iOS 10 or later, including iPhone 7 through iPhone 14 and Lightning iPads. It does not fit iPhone 15 or later, which use USB-C.

Your Wired Headphones, Back in Use
When Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone, millions of good wired headphones were left without a socket. This small adapter puts it back. It works with any headphones, earphones or audio cable that ends in a standard 3.5mm plug — from Apple EarPods with a 3.5mm plug to studio headphones such as the Audio-Technica M-Series, Bose and Sennheiser wired earphones, and the AUX cable in your car. Wired audio has no Bluetooth delay, which matters for gaming, video editing and music apps, and nothing needs charging. Because it is Apple’s own part, it carries Apple’s digital-to-analogue converter, so the sound quality is what Apple designed for the iPhone.

Check Your Port Before Ordering
This adapter is for devices with a Lightning port — the slim, flat connector used on iPhone 7 to iPhone 14 (including SE second and third generation) and on iPads and iPod touch models with Lightning. Apple moved the iPhone 15 and later, and recent iPads, to USB-C; those need a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter instead, and this one will not fit. The adapter has a single Lightning plug and no charging pass-through, so you cannot charge your iPhone through it while listening — for long listening sessions, charge first. If you are not sure which port your device has, look at the connector of the charging cable that came with it.

The Apple Part, Not a Copy
Cheap Lightning headphone adapters are widespread, and many stop working after an iOS update or crackle and drop out because they lack Apple’s certified chip. This is the Apple-made MMX62ZM/A, supplied new in its sealed Apple retail box, so it is recognised by your iPhone and keeps working with iOS updates. It is small and light enough to leave attached to your headphones’ plug or keep on a keyring, and many people keep a spare in a bag or the car. Simple, reliable and inexpensive — the easiest way to keep using headphones you already own and like.
