The single omnidirectional microphone in the C505e is engineered for a capture range up to 2.74 metres — more than double the approximately 1-metre range of a typical laptop built-in microphone or a standard webcam mic. Omnidirectional means the microphone capsule responds to sound from all directions rather than a focused forward-facing angle, which benefits users who turn their head during a call, who share the camera with a second person to the side or who sit at a non-standard angle to the screen. The noise-reduction processing filters high-frequency broadband noise — keyboard typing, fan noise, air conditioning and general room ambience — before the audio signal reaches the call. The practical benefit of the extended range in a workplace context: a user who sits further back from their screen than the standard arm’s-length distance (common on large monitors or dual-screen setups), or a teacher using the webcam to capture their classroom presentations, will have their voice captured clearly without needing to lean into the microphone or interrupt their workflow to adjust position.

Flexible Mounting — Any Position

Most consumer webcams ship with a short cable of 1.5m or less and a standard USB connection. The C505e’s 2-metre cable enables mounting positions that a shorter cable cannot reach — a shelf above a desk for a standing user view, the top of a mounted monitor, a whiteboard at the front of a classroom, or a desktop that sits on a separate surface to the monitor. The cable is attached to the webcam body rather than being a removable USB cable, which simplifies deployment in managed environments: the unit is self-contained and cannot be separated from its cable. The universal clip accommodates most laptop screen thicknesses and most monitor bezels, and includes a standard ¼-20 tripod thread so the camera can also be mounted on a tripod, clamp arm or dedicated monitor mount. The combination of the 2-metre cable and the universal clip means the C505e can be positioned to optimise both the camera angle and the microphone position independently of the USB port location on the connected computer.

Plug and Play — No Drivers Required

The C505e outputs HD 720p (1280×720 pixels) at 30 frames per second — the standard video call resolution that all major platforms (Teams, Zoom, Google Meet) use as their base quality tier. At 720p, face and expression detail is clearly visible to call participants on any display, and the file size for recorded calls remains manageable. The fixed focus is set at the factory to deliver sharp video across the range of working distances a typical desk user or classroom setup requires — approximately 0.5m to 3m. Unlike autofocus systems, fixed focus does not produce the brief hunting or blur transitions that autofocus cameras show when the subject moves or when the lighting changes. This makes the C505e predictable and consistent during calls, which is appropriate for business use cases where video quality needs to be reliable rather than adaptive. Auto light correction using RightLight 2 adjusts the exposure continuously to compensate for changing ambient light conditions. Plug and play: connects via USB-A and is recognised immediately by Windows 8 or later, macOS 10.10 or later and ChromeOS without any driver installation.
