The optical sensor in the G102 tracks at up to 8000 DPI — a resolution that allows very fine cursor movement per millimetre of physical mouse movement for precise aiming at low sensitivity settings, or fast sweeping movement at higher sensitivity. The practical range for most gaming use cases falls between 400 DPI (precise, slow movement for sniping) and 1600 DPI (standard desktop and general gaming sensitivity). The 8000 DPI ceiling gives scope for higher sensitivities if preferred. The 1000Hz USB polling rate means the PC receives position updates every 1ms — this is the gaming standard reporting rate and eliminates the input lag that 125Hz office mice introduce. Five DPI presets can be configured in Logitech G HUB and cycled through using the dedicated DPI button on the underside of the mouse without interrupting play. The gaming-grade sensor tracks accurately across most mousepad surfaces including cloth, hard and hybrid materials.

Standard office mice use membrane or rubber dome switches under the primary buttons — the resistance and tactile feedback come from the deformation of a rubber dome, which fatigues and softens over time. The G102 uses metal springs behind the mechanical switches to tension the primary buttons. Metal springs do not fatigue — the spring rate remains constant across the rated life of the switch, maintaining consistent actuation force and tactile feedback regardless of how many clicks have been made. The clicks on a G102 feel crisp and defined rather than soft or mushy, and the feedback helps confirm intentional clicks while reducing accidental double-clicking. The defined actuation point also helps with precise single-click inputs in games where accidental double-clicks at a critical moment have consequences. Logitech rates the mechanical spring system for tens of millions of actuations.

LIGHTSYNC is Logitech’s RGB lighting system — the G102 features it on the Logitech G logo zone and the scroll wheel. In default mode out of the box, the lighting cycles through a colour wave effect. Through Logitech G HUB software (free, Windows and macOS), the lighting can be set to any of 16.8 million colours as a static colour, breathing pattern, colour cycle or custom effect. G HUB also handles DPI preset configuration, button remapping, and macro programming for all 6 buttons. The 6-button layout covers: left click, right click, scroll wheel click, scroll wheel up/down, two side buttons. The side buttons are positioned for right-thumb access and are programmable to any keyboard shortcut, macro or system command. The Black colourway is the standard G102 — the most stocked, most reviewed and most photographed variant. LIGHTSYNC RGB on the black body produces the classic contrast gaming aesthetic: vivid colour zones against a dark surface, which is the base that most gaming setups are built around. All G HUB lighting customisation options apply equally to the Black version.
