Outer Ear Fit — Comfort Without Canal Pressure

Bose’s StayHear Ultra tips are a proprietary ear tip design that distinguishes the SoundTrue Ultra from conventional in-ear canal headphones. Standard canal earphones insert a silicone or foam tip deep into the ear canal to form an acoustic seal, which provides excellent isolation but can cause discomfort or pressure during extended wear. StayHear tips instead rest in the outer ear — the tip curves gently to follow the contour of the ear’s outer bowl (the concha), holding the earphone stable without inserting deeply into the canal. The seal is formed by the tip’s soft outer edge conforming to the ear’s natural shape rather than by canal insertion pressure. The result is a fit that stays secure during movement — including moderate gym use and commuting — while remaining comfortable for hours of continuous wear. Three sizes (S, M, L) are included to accommodate different ear geometries. The tips are made from a stay-soft material that maintains its pliability at body temperature rather than hardening with wear. Users who have found standard canal tips uncomfortable after extended use often find the StayHear design significantly more wearable.

The SoundTrue Ultra iOS version features a 3-button inline remote and microphone on the cable, positioned at approximately chin level for easy access without removing the phone from a pocket or bag. The Android remote layout provides volume up, volume down and a centre multifunction button — a single press answers or ends calls, a double press skips to the next track and a triple press goes to the previous track, with a long press activating the voice assistant on compatible devices. This remote is specifically tuned for the Android control standard (OMTP/CTIA) used by Samsung Galaxy devices and most Android phones — it will not provide full functionality on Apple devices, which use a different remote protocol. The inline microphone captures voice for calls and voice assistant commands. The sweat-resistant construction covers both the earphones and the cable, making them suitable for gym sessions and commuting in varied weather. The cable is approximately 121.92cm — practical for routing from a hip pocket to the ear without excess.

Will the Apple iOS version remote work with Samsung or Android devices?

No. The Android version (741629-0010) uses the CTIA/Android remote standard — volume and call controls will not function correctly on Apple devices. The Apple version (741629-0010) is a separate product with an Apple-compatible remote. For iPhone use, you need the Apple variant.

My iPhone has no headphone jack — will these work?

The SoundTrue Ultra is a wired 3.5mm headphone. Samsung removed the headphone jack from the Note 10 onwards (and S20 series onwards). If your phone has no 3.5mm jack, you will need a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter — the Samsung original adapter (EE-UC10JUWEGWW) is the recommended option for full microphone and remote compatibility.

What is the difference between the SoundTrue and SoundTrue Ultra?

The SoundTrue Ultra is the higher-end model with improved StayHear Ultra tips (softer, more ergonomic fit), enhanced sweat resistance and a refined acoustic design compared to the original SoundTrue. The Ultra also includes a carry case as standard. Both are discontinued — the SoundTrue Ultra was Bose’s premium in-ear wired offering for iOS users.

Do these have active noise cancellation?

No. The SoundTrue Ultra uses passive acoustic isolation — the sealed earphone design physically blocks ambient noise without electronics. For active noise cancellation in a Bose in-ear product, the QuietComfort 20 (wired) and QuietComfort Earbuds (wireless) are the relevant alternatives.

What does bulk packaging mean?

Bulk packaging means the headphones are brand new and unused — complete with all accessories (StayHear tips, carry case, clothing clip) — but supplied without the retail box. The product itself is identical to retail stock. This is genuine Bose product sourced from authorised supply channels.
