256-bit AES Hardware Encryption
Hardware-accelerated 256-bit AES encryption means the drive’s contents are encrypted at the chip level — independently of the host computer’s processor. Password protection is set via SanDisk’s SecureAccess software (Windows and Mac). Once password-protected, the drive cannot be read without the correct password even if the physical drive is removed and connected to another computer. Unlike software encryption, hardware AES does not degrade transfer performance — the drive runs at its full rated speeds regardless of whether encryption is active.
