The Apple W1 chip makes pairing the Solo3 to an iPhone a one-step process: hold the headphones near an unlocked iPhone and tap Connect on the pairing card that appears — no Bluetooth settings required. Once paired to an Apple ID, the Solo3 appears automatically across all devices on that iCloud account. When audio switches from iPhone to iPad, the Solo3 follows. The W1 chip also enables the 40-hour battery life: its efficient architecture reduces the power demand of Bluetooth processing enough to multiply battery runtime compared to standard Bluetooth chips. Siri can be invoked directly from the on-ear controls without touching the phone — hold the centre button to activate. The W1 chip also supports the faster, lower-latency Bluetooth connection used by Apple devices for audio.

40 hours of continuous playback from a single charge means the Solo3 can run for a full work week without recharging — five days of 8-hour listening before the battery is exhausted. In practice, most users charge every few days. Fast Fuel is Beats’ term for the charging circuit that delivers 3 hours of playback from just 5 minutes on charge — enough to get through a commute, a gym session or a long call if you forgot to charge overnight. Charging is via the standard micro-USB port. When the battery is completely empty, the included 3.5mm remote talk cable connects the Solo3 to any device with a headphone jack for wired listening — so the headphones are never completely unusable.

Class 1 Bluetooth operates at higher transmit power than the Class 2 standard, extending the reliable connection range to approximately 100 metres in open space versus the 10m of standard Bluetooth. The Rose Gold colourway is the most sought-after discontinued Solo3 colour. Beats removed it from production as part of their lineup simplification, and new units have been unavailable from Beats retail for some time.
