Do I need the app to use it?
No — it works fully standalone: press, read the LCD, done. The Xiaomi Home app (v6.9.200+) is optional and adds the clever parts: synced history, area/volume calculation, floor-plan mapping and remote-trigger measuring.
How accurate is it really?
±3 mm on normal indoor surfaces across the 40 m range. Like every laser measure, glass, mirrors, strong sunlight or very dark surfaces can throw readings — indoors on walls and furniture it is tighter than any tape.
How is it charged?
USB-C — the same cable as your phone. One charge of the 370 mAh battery is rated for about 3,000 measurements, so for occasional DIY it lasts months.
Is it complicated to operate?
One button does everything: long-press two seconds for on/off, short press to measure, double-tap to switch the measuring benchmark between the front and back edge of the device.
