Why the Phone Stays Cool

Most fast charging standards, including USB Power Delivery and Quick Charge, raise the voltage — to 9V, 12V or 20V — and keep the current relatively low. That approach works, but the phone has to step the higher voltage back down to the battery’s operating voltage internally, and that conversion generates heat inside the handset, right next to the battery. Warp Charge takes the opposite route: the adapter holds the output at 5V, close to the battery’s own voltage, and pushes the current up to 6A instead. Because very little voltage conversion happens inside the phone, most of the heat is generated in the adapter, where it can dissipate harmlessly, rather than in the device in your hand. The practical result is that a OnePlus phone on Warp Charge stays cool enough to keep using at full performance while it charges — gaming or navigating during a charge does not throttle the charging rate the way it does on phones using high-voltage standards. The charging control circuitry sits in the adapter rather than the phone, which is also why the OnePlus adapter is not interchangeable with a generic 30W charger.

Why a Third-Party Cable Will Not Work

A standard USB-A to USB-C cable is built around the USB specification’s 3A ceiling. Warp Charge pushes 6A — double that — and a cable that is not built for it will either refuse to carry the current, get hot, or simply cause the phone to fall back to slow charging. The OnePlus red cable uses thicker conductors and a connector rated for the higher current, and it carries the identification the adapter looks for before it will enable Warp mode. This is why Warp Charge needs all three parts together: the OnePlus adapter, the OnePlus red cable, and a OnePlus phone that supports Warp. Substitute any one of them and the charge drops to standard 5V speed. What Charges Fast, What Charges Normally

Full 30W Warp Charge is available on the OnePlus handsets built for it — the 7, 7 Pro, 7T, 7T Pro, 8, 8 Pro, 6T McLaren and Nord generation. The adapter is also backwards compatible with OnePlus’s earlier Dash Charge system, so a OnePlus 3, 3T, 5, 5T, 6 or 6T will charge from it at full Dash speed (5V/4A, 20W) without any adapter or setting change — Dash and Warp share the same architecture and the same red cable form factor. Devices that are not OnePlus — an iPhone, a Samsung Galaxy, a tablet, a Bluetooth speaker — will charge from this adapter at standard 5V USB speed. They are perfectly safe to connect and will charge normally, but they will not reach 30W, because the fast-charge handshake is proprietary to OnePlus. If you own a newer OnePlus phone that uses SUPERVOOC 65W or above, this adapter will still charge it, but at Warp speeds rather than the phone’s maximum. Check which system your handset uses before ordering if fast charging is the reason you are buying.

Can I use my own USB-C cable instead of the red one?

Not for Warp Charge. A standard cable is built for the USB specification’s 3A limit, and Warp Charge runs at 6A. With a generic cable the phone falls back to normal 5V charging, so the charge takes far longer than it should. The red OnePlus cable is built with heavier conductors and the identification the adapter checks for before it enables Warp mode. Keep the red cable with the adapter — it is the part most people lose, and it is the part that makes the difference.

Will this fast charge my Samsung or iPhone?

It will charge them safely, but at standard 5V USB speed rather than 30W. Warp Charge uses a proprietary handshake between the OnePlus adapter, cable and phone, and non-OnePlus devices cannot negotiate it. For fast charging a Samsung Galaxy you need a Power Delivery PPS charger such as the Samsung 25W or 45W adapter; for an iPhone, a USB-C Power Delivery adapter.

Will it work with my older OnePlus that used Dash Charge?

Yes. Warp Charge is backwards compatible with Dash Charge, so a OnePlus 3, 3T, 5, 5T, 6 or 6T will charge from this adapter at full Dash speed (5V/4A, 20W) with no setting to change. The red cable is the same form factor for both systems.

Why does my phone stay cool on Warp Charge when other fast chargers make it hot?

Because the voltage conversion happens in the adapter rather than in the phone. Most fast-charge standards send high voltage to the handset and let the phone step it down internally, which generates heat next to the battery. Warp Charge keeps the output at 5V and raises the current instead, so the heat is produced in the adapter where it can escape. That is also why you can keep gaming or navigating during a Warp charge without the charging rate dropping.

What does bulk packed mean?
