The MUC-M12NB1 is the cable Sony made to move its XBA in-ear headphones to a balanced connection. Swap the standard 3.5mm cable for this one and your earphones can be driven from the 4.4mm balanced output found on Sony Walkman players such as the NW-WM1 and NW-ZX series, and on many balanced DAPs and headphone amplifiers. A balanced connection keeps the left and right channels — and their grounds — separate all the way to the earpiece, which reduces crosstalk and gives a wider, cleaner stereo image.
Inside, Sony uses silver-coated oxygen-free copper in a star-quad structure, with conductors of different gauges and separate left and right ground wires. The cable is 1.2m long, with Sony’s MMCX-type connectors at the earphone end and a gold-plated L-shaped 4.4mm 5-pole plug at the player end. There is no microphone or remote. This unit is brand new and unused, supplied in bulk packaging — the cable only, without the original Sony retail box.
Plug
4.4mm 5-Pole Balanced
The 4.4mm balanced plug carries left, right and both grounds on separate contacts, lowering crosstalk compared with a 3.5mm single-ended connection. The gold-plated L-shaped housing sits neatly against a player.
Conductor
Silver-Coated OFC, Star-Quad
Sony pairs silver-coated oxygen-free copper with a star-quad layout and conductors of different gauges, plus separate left and right ground wires — the same approach used in its higher-end cables.
Fit
MMCX, 1.2m
Sony’s detachable MMCX-type connectors fit the XBA range, including XBA-N3, XBA-N1 and XBA-Z5. The 1.2m length suits a player in a pocket or on a desk.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which earphones does the MUC-M12NB1 fit?
Sony made it for its MMCX-type XBA in-ear headphones: XBA-N3, XBA-N1, XBA-Z5, XBA-A3, XBA-A2, XBA-H3, XBA-H2 and XBA-300, including the AP versions.
Is it new and genuine?
Yes. It is a genuine Sony MUC-M12NB1, brand new and unused. It comes in bulk packaging — the cable only, without the Sony retail box.
What do I need to use a 4.4mm balanced cable?
A player or amplifier with a 4.4mm balanced output, such as a Sony Walkman NW-WM1 or NW-ZX series, or a balanced DAP or headphone amp. It does not plug into a standard 3.5mm jack.
Does it have a microphone or remote?
No. It is a pure music cable with no microphone or inline remote.
Will it fit non-Sony MMCX earphones?
Sony designed it for its own MMCX-type models. Many standard MMCX in-ears accept it, but socket depth and housing shape vary between brands, so check your earphone before buying.
