Dual-Row Bus — Fast Buffer Clear

UHS-II (Ultra High Speed II) uses a second row of contacts on the bottom edge of the SD card to provide additional signal lanes between the card and the host device. These extra lanes allow the bus interface to operate at speeds up to 312MB/s theoretical maximum — well beyond the 104MB/s ceiling of UHS-I. The Lexar 1667x achieves 250MB/s read in this mode. In practice this high read speed has two primary benefits: fast image buffer clearance in-camera, allowing the camera to resume continuous burst shooting sooner after a burst; and fast card-to-computer transfer, reducing ingest time in post-production. When inserted into a UHS-I slot — most current consumer cameras use UHS-I — the second row of contacts is simply not connected and the card operates at UHS-I speeds. The 250MB/s figure is only achieved with a UHS-II compatible camera or card reader. Lexar’s Image Rescue software (downloadable) can recover deleted or corrupted image files from the card.

V60 Video Speed Class

60MB/s Guaranteed Minimum Write

Video Speed Class (V-rating) was introduced by the SD Association specifically for video recording applications because peak write speed is a misleading metric for this use case. A card recording video must sustain its write speed continuously for minutes or hours — any drop below the camera’s required bitrate causes a recording interruption. V60 guarantees the card will not drop below 60MB/s write speed under any operating condition within spec, including high ambient temperatures and high card fill levels. 60MB/s equates to 480Mbps, which is sufficient for 4K recording on most professional cameras including Sony A7 series, Nikon Z series, Canon R series and Fujifilm X and GFX series. Cameras recording 6K or 8K RAW at bitrates above 480Mbps require V90 cards. U3 (UHS Speed Class 3) guarantees a 30MB/s minimum, which is the older video-relevant speed class; V60 is the more demanding, more current standard and supersedes U3 as the relevant guarantee for high-bitrate video.

Extended Shoot Without Changing Cards

128GB provides substantial headroom for extended professional shoots without requiring mid-session card swaps. As a reference: a Sony A7R V shooting uncompressed RAW produces files of approximately 120MB each — 128GB accommodates roughly 2,100 frames. A Nikon Z9 shooting 4K N-RAW at 12-bit records at approximately 1GB per minute — 128GB provides around 4 hours of continuous recording at that format. Mixed-format shoots — stills and video — benefit from the headroom that prevents the mental overhead of monitoring remaining card space during a shoot. The 128GB capacity also means fewer card swaps during ingest, reducing the total number of connection/disconnection cycles that contribute to connector wear on both card and reader. The write protect switch on the left edge of the card allows the card to be locked to prevent accidental deletion or overwriting of existing data during review or transfer.
