Bluetooth Air Actions extend the S Pen beyond the display. With the phone in your pocket or on a stand, the S Pen’s side button becomes a remote: a single click triggers the camera shutter, a double-click switches between front and rear cameras, and a hold-and-swipe advances or rewinds media. For presentations the S Pen advances slides with a button press. These gestures are customisable per-app in the Air Actions settings — different actions can be assigned depending on which app is open. The S Pen charges in the built-in slot via the phone’s NFC coil, reaching full charge in under a minute of slotting in. Bluetooth pairs automatically when the S Pen is removed from the slot.

The 0.7mm tip is finer than most capacitive styluses, enabling small and precise handwriting on the S23 Ultra’s 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display without cramping. 4,096 pressure levels respond to how hard you press — light strokes produce thin lines, firm pressure produces broad ones — replicating the feel of a real pen or pencil in drawing apps and Samsung Notes. Near-zero latency on the S23 Ultra means no visible delay between pen movement and mark on screen. Samsung Notes converts handwritten text to typed text automatically, making handwritten notes immediately searchable and shareable. The S Pen is optimised for the S23 Ultra’s screen calibration and palm rejection logic — third-party styluses do not match this integration.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra has a dedicated S Pen slot — the pen stores and charges inside the phone body. Unlike tablet S Pens that attach magnetically, the S23 Ultra’s slot is a physical housing that keeps the S Pen secure during drops, in pockets and in bags. Removing the pen from the slot automatically opens Air Command — a floating menu giving instant access to Smart Select (screen capture and annotation), Screen Write (screenshot + markup), Bixby Vision, Translate and Live Messages. The S Pen does not need a case or pouch and adds no bulk to the device. At 3g it is virtually weightless.
