The Samsung S Pen EJ-PX510 is the official replacement stylus for the Galaxy Tab S9 FE, S9 FE+, S10 FE and S10 FE+ — the same pen supplied in the box with those tablets, sold separately for users replacing a lost or damaged original. The EJ-PX510 is a passive EMR stylus: it draws its operating power from the electromagnetic field generated by the tablet’s digitiser layer, which means it contains no battery, requires no charging, and never needs pairing. Pick it up and write. The pen is sensitive to both pressure and tilt — pressing harder produces a thicker or darker stroke, and angling the pen shades broader areas in the same way a real pencil does, which is what makes Samsung Notes and PENUP feel natural rather than like drawing with a mouse. The IP68 rating means the pen survives submersion in fresh water and is unaffected by rain during outdoor use. When you are finished, the pen snaps to the magnetic holder on the tablet body and stays there. Weighing 8.7g, it is light enough to hold comfortably through long note-taking sessions. Grey.
Passive EMR · No Battery
Why This Pen Never Needs Charging
The EJ-PX510 uses electromagnetic resonance (EMR) — a technology where the tablet’s digitiser layer emits a low-power electromagnetic field, and a passive resonant circuit inside the pen absorbs energy from that field and reflects a signal back. The tablet reads the returned signal to determine the pen’s position, pressure and tilt angle. Because the energy comes from the tablet rather than from the pen, there is no battery inside the EJ-PX510, nothing to charge, and nothing to run flat mid-sentence. It also means there is no pairing procedure — the pen is recognised the instant it comes within range of the screen, and a replacement pen works immediately without any setup. The practical advantage over active styluses such as the Apple Pencil is that an EMR pen has no operating time limit and no failure mode where the pen is unusable because it was left off the charger. The trade-off is that features requiring a powered radio inside the pen — Bluetooth pairing, remote shutter gestures, battery level display — are not available on this model, as covered below. For writing, drawing, annotating and navigating, the EMR system is functionally complete.
Pressure + Tilt · Air Command
How It Behaves on the Screen
Pressure sensitivity means the digitiser measures how firmly the tip is pressed against the glass and passes that value to the application. In Samsung Notes, a light stroke produces a thin line and a firm stroke produces a thick one, in a continuous gradient rather than in steps — the same behaviour as a real pen on paper. Tilt sensitivity measures the angle of the pen body relative to the screen surface, which drawing applications use to widen the stroke when the pen is held at a shallow angle, replicating the way the side of a pencil lead shades a broad area. Together these two inputs are what separate a genuine S Pen from a generic capacitive stylus, which registers only position and produces a uniform line regardless of pressure or angle. Air Command is the floating shortcut menu that appears when the pen hovers near the screen — tap the icon to reach Smart Select, Screen Write, Live Messages, Translate, Sketch to Image and other pen tools without leaving the app you are in. Hovering the pen above the screen also previews links and shows tooltips before you commit to a tap. The button on the pen barrel functions as a modifier for selection and eraser shortcuts within supported apps.
IP68 · Magnetic Hold · Genuine Fit
Durability and Why Official Matters
IP68 is the highest common ingress protection rating for consumer devices — the 6 covers complete dust exclusion and the 8 covers submersion in fresh water beyond one metre. For the S Pen this means rain during outdoor use, a spilled drink, or an accidental drop into water are survivable events rather than replacement events. Samsung specifies testing at up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes in fresh water; salt water and pool chemicals are outside the rating, and the pen should be wiped dry before being reattached to the tablet. The magnetic attachment point on the tablet body holds the pen securely during transport in a bag — note that on the FE series this holder is for retention only, since the pen has no battery to charge. Third-party EMR styluses sold for Tab S9 FE compatibility vary in tip material, pressure curve calibration and hover distance; the differences show up as inconsistent line weight, a dead zone at the screen edges, or a tip that wears through quickly. The genuine Samsung EJ-PX510 is calibrated against the specific digitiser in these tablets, which is why line behaviour matches the original pen exactly. Replacement tips are available separately when the tip eventually wears.
Right choice if you…
✔ Lost or damaged the S Pen that came with your Tab S9 FE, S9 FE+, S10 FE or S10 FE+ and want the exact original replacement
✔ Want guaranteed pressure and tilt calibration — generic styluses produce uniform lines and inconsistent hover behaviour
✔ Prefer a stylus that never needs charging — no battery, no pairing, no downtime
✔ Use the tablet outdoors or around water — IP68 rated against rain and submersion
Consider something else if…
✖ You want Air Actions gesture control or a remote camera shutter — the FE-series S Pen has no Bluetooth; those features require the S Pen Pro
✖ You own a Tab S9, S9+, S9 Ultra, S10+ or S10 Ultra (non-FE) — those tablets use a different S Pen; check your model before ordering
✖ You own a Tab S7 FE, S8 or earlier — the EJ-PX510 is specified for the S9 FE and S10 FE generations

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this S Pen need charging or pairing?
No. The EJ-PX510 is a passive EMR stylus — it takes its operating energy from the tablet’s digitiser layer, so there is no battery inside, nothing to charge, and no Bluetooth pairing step. Take it out of the box, touch it to the screen, and it works. Note that because there is no battery, the magnetic holder on the tablet holds the pen in place but does not charge it.
Does it support Air Actions or the remote camera shutter?
No. Samsung confirms that the Tab S9 FE and Tab S10 FE S Pens do not support Bluetooth Low Energy, so Air Actions (gesture control), remote shutter, battery level display and pen pairing are not available on this model. The Air Command shortcut menu does work — it is accessed by hovering the pen near the screen and tapping the floating icon. If you specifically need Air Actions, the S Pen Pro is the model that provides them.
Will this pen work with my Tab S9 or S9 Ultra?
The EJ-PX510 is specified for the FE-series tablets: Tab S9 FE, S9 FE+, S9 FE 5G, S10 FE, S10 FE+ and S10 FE 5G. The standard Tab S9, S9+, S9 Ultra, S10+ and S10 Ultra use a different S Pen with Bluetooth support and in-tablet charging. Check the model number on your tablet before ordering — FE models carry “FE” in the device name.
Can it get wet?
The EJ-PX510 is IP68 rated — tested for submersion in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. Rain, spills and accidental immersion are within the rating. Salt water and chlorinated pool water are not covered. Dry the pen with a cloth before reattaching it to the tablet.
